First of all, let me say that I am so excited to be the AC for this email challenge, and get to know all of you wonderful people. Let me tell you a little about me.
In a nutshell, I am adopted, I am "cradle Catholic" which just means I have been a Catholic Christian my whole life, I am married and have three kids. Taylar is 7, Alyson is 4 and Jace is 2 1/2. Here is a picture of all of us together recently:
Just so y'all know I have attempted this challenge since the first time they have offered it, but I have done it on Twitter and not by email. I have also never done the Bible study with the challenge, but that is mostly because it took me all year just to start waking up at 5:30. I wake up (most days) on time...but unfortunately have not included exercise yet into my morning routine. I am about 20-30 lbs overweight, technically obese by government standards, so I desperately need that exercise.
My husband is not Christian. He believes in God, but...I'm not entirely sure that he prays or reads the Bible, ever. I have been praying for him but not as consistently as I should, and I have been a little impatient with God about this. My dad is in his 60's and we have been talking to him about going to church for 30 years...and he just decided to start this past summer. So I know my husband may take a while. But can I ask you all to pray for him too? Pray for his eyes to be opened and pray for a trusting heart. He has a "I make my own luck God has nothing to do with it" kind of mentality. Anyway, prayers are appreciated.
I sometimes hesitate to tell my friends I am Catholic because frankly, I have grown tired of being evangelized and debated with. Trust me when I tell you that I have researched and read arguments from both sides, and I have stayed with the conclusions that I grew up with. You are welcome to ask me any questions you wish and I will be happy to answer you in the best way I know how.
All of that said, I don't want to focus on religion in our group. I want to focus on getting up and being with the Lord and reading His Word and encouraging one another in our walks with Him. This is one reason I have hesitated to put my thoughts on the Bible study passages, though I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your responses so far. This week's passage from Galatians (the first week if anyone decides to read this post in December) is bringing to mind the debate of faith vs. works. More along the line of "what are works" than the "faith alone" aspect. (I will put all of that in a comment instead to further discussion.)
Anyway, that is me in a lot more than a nutshell. I think we have a wonderful group of people and I look forward to getting to know each of you better.
